World Suicide Awareness
Thursday, October 22, 2015I wrote this column article for a final project for my journalism class. Actually, I'm not aware that there is such thing as World Suicide Prevention Day and I just found out about it through twitter and further research. Obviously, I came up with the idea to featured it and make it as my subject for my article and here it is:
Is there a moment in your life where you feel alone, you are
depressed, started to have a negative outlook about life, and started to think
on what is your purpose to continue to live? There are times that you feel
empty and slowly the darkness continues to invade your life through a more
miserable one. You want to speak up for yourself but you can’t, you seek for
help but still you feel helpless and you are trying to continue to live but
there would be a time that you get tired and just wanted to give up.
Suicide is a serious matter where a person is trying to end
up his life to escape with all the hardships in this world and decided to end
their unbearable sufferings and too much sadness. These people feel hopeless,
losing their strength to continue living in this cruel world and the only thing
that comes up to his mindto escape from this extreme depression is through
finishing his own life.
Even though suicide is not considered as major issue or
problem here in the Philippines compare to other countries such as in the
United States, we still need to be aware on this kind of situations and try to
understand these people’s situation. Considering that according to World Health Organization (WHO)
2014 report on preventing suicide, Suicide is the second leading cause of death
globally among people ages 15 to 29 and 800,000 died from suicide every year.
These number of people who ended or trying to end up their lives proves that we
really need an action and to be aware of this situation.
On September 10, it is considered as a World Suicide
Prevention day that aims to promote actions to prevent suicides worldwide.
Every year, the organizations, government agencies and especially individuals
are given a chance to promote awareness about suicide and help those people who
are suffering from severe depression and giving them hope. The International
Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) and World Health Organization (WHO)
has an important role in promoting this event.
This kind of event helps these people that thinks to finish
their lives to have a positive outlook about life. It will be truly helpful to
other people to feel that they are not alone and there is someone that
understand their situation and willing to speak up on their part.
Even though there are a lot of problems that you think you
can’t bear anymore and just choose to end your life just to escape the pain
always remember that suicide is not the solution to all of your problems. There
are still a lot of people who are willing to help you all throughout your way,
in every miserable and darkest journey that you experienced there will still
always be a sunshine that is waiting for you.
Never get tired on living and
encourage yourself to fight and never be defeated by this depression. Open your
eyes and those darkness will eventually fill with light and sunshine that
awaits you for a new beginning.
These people doesn’t need to be judge on what they feel but
someone who is willing to help him and cope up with this struggles. All they
need is an encouragement that despite of this problems there are still a lot of
reason why you need to continue living and they still have a purpose in this
world.
